Come You Who Are Weary !

Key Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30

This seems a strange message as we approach the day we celebrate our Lord and saviours birth, but the truth is as we all get caught up with the preparations for the celebrations we can so easily get depressed or just tired out!

So my question is - Are you weary and burdened?
The invitation is to come. Where shall we go to? Many of have real needs that we do not see fulfilled in God because we go to the wrong person or we go to the wrong place.

Jesus came as a baby to grow into a man to bring the world peace! John 14:27

Jesus says in John 7:37 "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink"
In John 6:35 He says "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry and He who believes in me will never be thirsty".

We must never doubt the Lords ability to provide for what we need, We must learn to trust Him with all our situations. The Lord says that "if You have faith as small as a mustard seed, You can say to this mountain move from here to there and it will move" Matthew 17:20.

We have been sent the Holy Spirit, to be
a] our comforter,
b] our lover,
c] our teacher :
John 14:26,
d] our friend,
e] our healer,
f] our counsellor :
John 14:26, John 14:16, John 16:6

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid".

Exodus 33:14 ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest’ This is the presence of God, His Holy Spirit.

We have to learn that Jesus is our friend for all seasons, He came to demonstrate God's love and show us peace from sin and our striving.

Take My yoke and learn from Me. John 13:15 "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you"
Philippians 2:5 ‘Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus’
1 Peter 2:21 ‘To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in His footsteps’.
1 John 2:6 ‘Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did’

Jesus wants us to learn that just as He goes to the Father we too can go and receive real rest, living lives that glorify God

For I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.
Psalm 116:7 ‘be at rest once more, O my soul for the Lord has been good to You’
Jeremiah 6:16 ‘This is what the Lord says: stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls’.

Our souls are so delicate, so precious we need to look after them and ensure that they will be saved and healed!

for My Yoke is easy and My burden is light.
I John 5:3 ‘This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome’.

If we learn to be obedient to scripture we find rest and care go hand in hand.

To love the Lord our God with all our hearts and minds and strength and to love our neighbours as ourselves

Maybe you have realised that you need to be released from striving and worry and enter into Jesus' rest. Start to believe in what God promises about His rest in the bible. If you have not invited Jesus into your heart this would be your first step. Peter said of Jesus
'You have the words of eternal life' John 6:68

The Lord Jesus is ready to help you as soon as you ask to know Him as Lord. Jesus Christ has paid for your sin, my sin and every ones sin by living a life free from sin and dying in our place so that we might know forgiveness of sin, and freedom eternally from the power of death.

Remember you can only deal with your own sin. Everyone has to answer to God for what they have done, but God is merciful and will forgive them too, when they are ready to come to Him. He will always accept you, and makes you the offer now of real, genuine love and resurrection life.

You need to say sorry to God for having offended Him by your sinful actions, and choose to walk in His ways instead. Ask Him to forgive you for your sins, repent of your sins and tell God you need His help to stop living in a way that pleases you, and tell him you want to live to please Him.

Invite Jesus Christ to come and be Lord of your life. Thank Him that He has bought you back from the road of darkness and destruction by giving His life for you, and releasing you from the burdens of rejection, guilt and shame. Bringing you fully into His wonderful light. Thank Jesus for this, and acknowledge His death and resurrection and ask His Holy Spirit to come into you right now and give you the power to change and you will find real acceptance in Him and He himself will show you the way forward.

Next step is to tell someone you have received Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and find a church that really loves Jesus and lives for Him.

It will not be easy but will be the greatest and most joyful decision you have ever made.
