Choices
Well
for the last couple of months we have been bombarded with the
policies of the political parties. They are trying to get us
to make a decision for them and the things that they stand for.
The thing that they are aware of more than anything else is that
we have a choice.
Choice is the thing we make either through faith or through our
common sense reasoning's so that ultimately we can live better
lives. Sometimes though the very choices we make can be costly,
either physically, spiritually or emotionally.
Let's look
at the choice this man had to make:
He was an ordinary hard working guy, a family man with an eighteen
month old son who was like all new toddlers very inquisitive.
His job was a swing railway bridge operator in America, he would
close the bridge across the harbour mouth to allow trains to pass
round the mouth of the harbour and open them for ships to gain
access to and from the harbour. On this particular day he had
to take his son to work with him as his wife was not well. It
was time for the train to come by so he went to operate the appropriate
lever to close the bridge. As he reached for the lever he noticed
his son was missing. He had very little time to think, as he went
to pull the lever he noticed out of the corner of his eye that
his son had found his way outside and was crawling amongst the
gear wheels. The train was fast approaching packed with commuters.
He had a
choice to make!
He could close the bridge and kill his son and save the many on
board the train, or he could save his son at the cost of hundreds
of lives on that busy train. With agony in his heart he knew the
choice he had to make and with great anguish of soul and heartache
he pulled the lever. His son of course gave up his life for the
sake of those on the train. As the train passed safely by many
on the train waved and smiled at the bridge operator not knowing
of the personal cost their lives had been bought with.
Over
2000 years ago God had a choice to make so he could have relationship
with the people He had created and loved. Man was destined to
die because of the state of sin he was locked up in.
God's choice was either to let man die eternally or to do something
only he could to allow mankind to live forever and have fellowship
with Him.
We are thankful today because God chose well, although it was
costly. He sent His only son Jesus to come and live just like
you and me. From day one, though he was destined to die so that
our sinfulness could be met not just by his death but also by
His resurrection.
Indeed God's election pledge was nailed to a cross, so that we
would have an opportunity to make the right choice with Him.
If you like, the Christian Churches manifesto is that we might
choose Jesus. I've looked at the other candidates and not one
of them gave their lives so that I could live.
I
made a choice! How about you!
Admit
to yourself the need of a saviour, then ask Jesus to make it real
for you
You
need to say sorry to God for having offended Him by your sinful
actions, and choose to walk in His ways instead. Ask Him to forgive
you for your sins, repent of your sins and tell God you need His
help to stop living in a way that pleases you, and tell him you
want to live to please Him.
Invite
Jesus Christ to come and be Lord of your life. Thank Him that
He has bought you back from the road of darkness and destruction
by giving His life for you, and releasing you from the burdens
of rejection, guilt and shame. Bringing you fully into His wonderful
light. Thank Jesus for this, and acknowledge His death and resurrection
and ask His Holy Spirit to come into you right now and give you
the power to change and you will find real acceptance in Him and
He himself will show you the way forward.
Next
step is to tell someone you have received Jesus as your Lord and
Saviour and find a church that really loves Jesus and lives for
Him.
It
will not be easy but will be the greatest and most joyful decision
you have ever made.
If
you have made this decision today E.Mail us
and we will send you a Gospel of John
and some helps to get you started in your new and exciting walk
with Jesus.
